IPhone OS 4 to add… Multi-tasking!
Sweet. That was about all I could think of as I was standing outside of Apple’s Campus in Cupertino, CA last Thursday. No, I didn’t get to in, but that didn’t stop my sense of wonder. As Mr. Jobs was introducing the new iPhone OS, there was a question as to whether Apple had finally worked out the bugs in some of the most wanted functionalities of their phone and now, pad.
Multitasking
Yes, it’s finally here. Well, only if you have a 3GS. Original I phone users and iPhone 3G do not have the hardware to support this. But, it will be easy to use. Depress the home button twice to have a window pop up from the bottom to display all open programs. Early developers say that 3G can use this function with tweaking, but that remains to be seen after the final product is released.
iADs
Well, Apple will give the business a little boost with a better way to incorporate ads in the programs that are released as free. There is a “flash” *(humor…..) feel to the way they have implemented this and I am not sure how well it will be used. I think it looks neat, and hopefully it will take off
Game Center
This is a central location where users can match up, compare, and track pretty much everything about a game from one location. There is even a random match up for those who don’t have online friends. Not a new idea but and interesting one.
iBooks
Okay, the same book program used on the iPad will be here for the phone. I have no idea how this will work on a smaller screen, but am willing to try it. That and the battery life of my iPhone doesn’t seem to scream “READ A BOOK” and use the GPS and phone.
Now is the time of the unified inbox!!! No more switching between mailboxes to find what the heck that 1 on your icon is for. Also, there is a tracker on conversations that have to do with the same content, so you can back trace and cross reference multiple email at the same time. Pretty cool……
Well, this is an early release of iPhone OS4, time will tell what delevopers will do with it. I am excited as I will probably get a new phone this summer (my 3G is feeling worn…….). Will keep you posted!
